About Me
Graduating from both Savannah State University and the University of Florida, Dr. Tyeshia Redden earned a Master of Science in Urban Studies & Planning and a doctoral degree in Design, Construction, & Planning, respectively. She is an active member of both the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning and the Urban Affairs Association.
Currently appointed as an Assistant Professor in the University of Toronto’s Department of Geography & Planning, Dr. Redden is the social policy concentration advisor for the Master of Science in Planning program. Teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses, she enhances the core and elective curriculum with class topics that traverse contemporary policy debates, planning history and theory, and transnational discourses regarding justice.
Dr. Redden's research delves into the intricate interplay of class, gender, race, and sexuality in urban settings. She explores the experiences of marginalized communities and the crucial role scholar-activists play in addressing social inequalities. Her career has included research projects on behalf of institutions like the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University, Habitat for Humanity International, the National Institutes of Health, and the Office of the Deputy Chief Operating Officer for Development in DeKalb County, Georgia. Dr. Redden’s work has been published by the Journal of the American Planning Association, the Journal of Black Sexuality and Relationships, the Journal of Planning History, and the Journal of Race, Ethnicity and the City.
